Balanced Budget Votes

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-12-15)

Both of Missouri's senators vote for their versions of a balanced budget amendment for the federal government.

Two bills were offered yesterday and both were defeated. This frustrates Democratic senator Claire McCaskill, who voted for her party's version and against a second Republican-led balanced budget bill she said would cut medicare too deeply. The double failure also angers Republican Roy Blunt, who voted for his party's bill but after its defeat, blamed Democrats for not being serious about solving the economic problems of our country.

A debt ceiling deal last summer required the senate to stage the votes in exchange for 2 trillion dollars in future spending cuts.
