WESTON, MO (2010-12-23) The verdicts are in for the explosion at the KCP&L plant north of Weston in 2007.
In may of that year a pipe ruptured at the Iatan power plant killing two and injuring two others. A Platte County jury has awarded the family of one of the fatalities, 54 year old Thomas McCool, three and a half million dollars. The family of the other fatality, 40 year old Ron Jones, is awarded 6 and a half million dollars. Andrew Bennett suffered severe burns and has been awarded 1.75 million dollars. The money is to be paid by Halliburton Energy Services, who was working on the KCP&L plant at the time. Kansas City Power and Light also sued Halliburton for the losses while the plant was closed for 18 days after explosion. Halliburton says it will appeal the verdicts.
