MARYVILLE, MO (2010-12-22) The Maryville Public Safety Department is awarded a grant aimed at helping officers be safer.
The department is receiving more than $3,700 in state and federal funding to buy 7 patrol vehicle cages. The cage is installed between the back seat and front putting thosee in custody in a secure environment. Right now Maryville's procedure is to handcuff those arrested behind their back then strap them with the seatbelt on the passenger side of the front seat next to the officer. The city says getting the cages and putting prisoners in the back seat will be safer for all concerned while they are being transoprted.
