CARROLL COUNTY, MO (2010-12-14) Missouri Conservation Officials confirm it was a giant coyote that was shot last month in Carroll county.
A normal coyote averages 18 to 30 pounds. This one tips the scale at 104 pounds. Conservationists say a hunter shot it on opening day of Missouri's November firearms deer season which is legal. But after looking at the giant size wondered if it was a wolf. Despite the animal's size, DNA results prove it was indeed a coyote although conservation officials are wondering if it might have been a timber wolf and coyote hybrid. They say no tags or tracking devices were on the body. The last recorded Gray Wolf sighting was in 2001 in Grundy county, that one weighed 80 pounds, wore a tag and was traced back to Michigan.
