MARYVILLE, MO (2010-12-20) The Missouri Farm Bureau is elk hunting not for the animals, but for partners to oppose reintroduction in Missouri.
The Department of Conservation announced plans in October to foster elk herds in southern Missouri. But the state's well-known farm lobbying group is gearing up to push lawmakers in January to oppose the elk plan. Leslie Holloway is the Farm Bureau's state and local governmental affairs director. She says the groups stance remains property or crop damage could happen if elk are in Missouri. The Conservation Department points out elk are only being re-introduced in three counties and are traceable, reducing the possibility of problems.
