ATCHISON COUNTY, MO (2010-12-14) A Northwest Missouri Conservation agent helps bring charges against two men accused of a deer poaching operation that crossed state lines.
Atchison County Missouri Conservation agent Eric Abbott worked with Iowa Conservation officials in the case involving a 67 year old from Louisiana and a 36 year old from Mississippi.The two have plead guilty to harvesting deer illegally, after agents charged the men ahd taken 2 does and a buck in Missouri but not reported it. Agents then say the two shot another buck and 3 more does in Missouri and took them to a garage in Blanchard Iowa to butcher. That's where conservation officers saw them and gathered evidence. They then moved in on the pair in a field near Clarinda, seizing 3 deer racks, 2 shotguns, and found 3 coolers with the meat believed to be from 7 deer. Each of the out of staters were fined nearly $1,700 and assessed $15,000 in civil damages for the deer in Iowa. They are also among 4 men sighted for suspicion of nearly 20 violations of Missouri hunting laws.
