MARYVILLE, MO (2010-12-15) An icon of Nodaway county has been missing since mid July by the end of the week- the look of downtown Maryville will return to normal.
Contractors in Kentucky have built a replica of the courthouse cupola which sat on top of the clock tower overlooking the city. The old structure has been duplicated and is arriving in pieces today, where it will be re-assembled all day tomorrow. Project manager Rick Ackers tells us a larger crane will then replace the duplicate cupola on Friday. The aluminum structure has the look of slate and all the original materials. Since the piece is being put back on top of the courthouse clock tower, Main Street is being closed between 3rd and 4th Streets. That section will be closed to traffic all day tomorrow, with the sidewalks open for anyone interested in watching the replacement.
