ST. LOUIS, MO (2010-12-22) Two of Missouri's three Democrats in congress may find themselves battling each other in 2012 as a result of yesterday's census announcement.
Because the state lost population, it will have 8 members in the 113th congress which will be sworn in in 2013. David Robertson is a Political Science professor in St. Louis and theorizes since Republicans control the redistricting process in the Missouri general assembly, they might try to put William Lacy Clay and Russ Carnahan in the same district. Experts add the loss of Missouri's seat in contress, combined with the retirement or defeat of some senior members of the state's delegation, will make it harder for Missouri to fight for its share of the shrinking federal budget.
