ROCKPORT, MO. (2009-12-09) The Red Cross out of St. Joseph activated 2 emergency shelters overnight in St. Joseph and in Rockport, as interstate 29 left motorists stranded.

Midland empire Red Cross worker Karla Long says since they've re-opened the interstate the St. Joseph shelter is closed but the rockport refugees are still there. The Rockport Red Cross shelter is at the Methodist church and is being staffed by local residents. The St. Joseph headquarters was prepared to open 5 shelters overnight but just had to activate 2.
