MARYVILLE, MO (2008-12-22) Once the snow and ice melt in the spring, Maryville will have more to look forward to than just a new season.
Nearly $800,000 have been given to the city through grants to start a trails network through the city.
Construction should start in the spring.
Part of the money comes from the "Safe Routes to Schools" grant… which has paid to build similar hike/bike trails in other communities.
Bob Cooper is an original organizer of the grass-roots citizen's group that has created the blueprint for Maryville's trail system.
He says increased property values in neighborhoods around the trails is just one benefit.
Cooper adds healthier residents and more socialization are two more advantages Maryville citizens can look forward to when the trails system is in place.
