Young Drivers Buckle Up

Thomack

MO (2012-08-13)

Over the last 3 years, 254 teens were killed in traffic crashes just in Missouri and 75 percent of those teens were not wearing seat belts.

Customer Relations Manager for the Missouri Department of Transportation Melissa Black says the Northwest Regional Coalition for Roadway Safety and representatives from MoDOT and the Missouri State Highway Patrol went to area schools this spring to talk to them about why it is important to buckle up.

Black also says many teens may not realize that in Missouri, under the Graduated Driver's License Law, teens are required to wear their seat belt and it is a primary offense. That means that they can be pulled over and ticketed for not wearing their seatbelts.
