St. Joseph voters overwhelmingly voted to extend a half-cent sales tax for another 6 years.
The tax funds the Capital Improvements Program, which will spend about $30 million on city projects, with the emphasis on repairs and maintenance of existing infrastructure. The St. Joseph News-Press reports (http://bit.ly/Mjf1bn ) streets and transportation projects will get $18.6 million. Other proposed projects include 2 new fire stations and buying land for a 3rd and renovations and restoration of some park areas. The tax extension passed by a 73 percent to 27 percent margin.
