Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has appointed a new member to the State Board of Education.
Northwest Missouri native Charlie Shields is the chief operating officer of Truman Medical Center Lakewood. He was a long time state legislator who represented St. Joseph from 1991- 2003, and then the Buchanan and Platte counties in the senate from 2003-2011. Before joining Truman Medical Center in 2010 he held management positions at Heartland Health in St. Joseph for 17 years. Shields official confirmation to the board is subject to approval by the Missouri Senate, but he will begin serving on the board immediately. Shields appointment runs until July 2020.
