Savannah Finances

SAVANNAH, MO (2011-08-04)

Savannah continues looking at new ways to help its financial picture, and that includes a sewer rate increase and possible property tax for property owners in the city.

Savannah faces a December first deadline to pay $700,000 on principal and interest payments for its water and sewer system. It owes close to 2 million dollars for renovations over the past several years. The council points out sewer bills for residents have raised since the early 90's, and is proposing a 25% increase in sewer bills. The issue will be taken up at the next city council meeting. The council is also considering a new personal property tax for Savannah residents. This is estimated to bring in another $60,000 a year for operations, but right now the idea is in the planning stage only.
