New Childcare Law

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-08-10)

This month licensed child care providers in our Missouri listening area now have a new state law to comply with.

It requires infants be put down on their backs during nap time. The mandatory procedure aims to reduce the number of infant deaths from sids, or sudden infant death syndrome. Cheryl Arneill is with the Missouri group "Sids Resources" and says putting infants on their backs helps ensure they have an open airway.

The new law effects infants less than 12 months old in more than 3,000 Missouri-licensed child care facilities. It does not apply to thousands of unlicensed providers. The law is in effect now.
