ST. JOSEPH, MO (2011-08-04)
An update on the electrical outages around the St. Joseph area.
KCP&L tell us it was caused by an equipment failure at a St. Joseph substation about 2 this afternoon. They say it was not heat related. That even caused a small fire, which damaged other equipment. A spokeswoman tells us the fire was contained and there were no injuries. She says it caused about 15,000 customers in and around St. Joseph to lose electricity but now only about 7,900 have no power. She says crews are re-routing the electricity from the grid to get people back on as soon as possible but it could be early tomorrow morning, between 1 and 3 in the morning, before all customers have their power restored.
