BUCHANAN COUNTY, MO (2011-08-02)
Buchanan county residents are deciding today if a county-wide sales tax should continue.
The quarter-cent tax was put in place back in 1987 and is for capital improvements and economic development in the county. Last year it brought about 3 million dollars into the coffers. The county commission points out if approved, some of the money could be used for flood levee improvements. Opponents are arguing it's a bad policy because there is no sunset clause on today's ballot issue. Polls are open until 7 tonight and we will have updates on the results throughout this evening and again during newscasts tomorrow.
