MARYVILLE, MO (2010-08-23) Just days before classes resume in Maryville, a Northwest Missouri State University senior is killed in a car accident.

Investigators say 22 year old elementary education major Abby Cockrill of Platte City was riding in a car on I-29 in Kansas City when it was hit in the rear by John McNamara of Kansas City. The impact flipped the car Cockrill was riding in upside down, where it skidded a thousand feet before running off the interstate and turing over again, landing on its wheels. Cockrill started student teaching in Platte City last week and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority at Northwest. The University is providing counseling services.
