ST. JOSEPH, MO. (2010-08-18) The senior senator from St. Joseph is speaking out against the ruling that Missouri's funeral protest law is illegal.
Senate president Pro-Tem Charlie Shields was instrumental in getting senate bill 578 passed, which makes it a crime for people in Missouri to picket or protest within an hour of a funeral service and an hour after. Shields calls this week's ruling by a federal judge a quote "Tragedy" to those laid to rest having the right to peace, respect, and compassion. Shields is leaving the Missouri senate because of term limits.
