HIAWATHA CITY, MO (2010-08-30) The city of Hiawatha continues negotiating the price of a new communications tower on the city owned property in bruning park.
Midwest Mobile Radio wants to construct the tower. It's proposing charging Brown County a lump-sum payment of $30,000 or $7,500 over 5 years for unlimited access for Sherriff's communications on the tower. A site lease payment of $800 to $1,000 per year would go to the city for the property. The city is looking into other market rates and hopes to decide on the proposal at the next commission meeting. At its recent meeting commisioners also donated a 2011 swim pass to be auctioned off for the "Swim for Susie" fundraiser. And Event for Susie Mcelroy who has served as Hiawatha's pool manager for several years. The commission also accepted the highest bids to come in on surplus city property, which included a 1972 tanker truck, and a 1998 mower.
