HIAWATHA, KS. (2010-08-02) The Hiawatha City commission backs off on zoning regulations to allow for more signs in the City.
Previously city ordinances had banned advertising signs on the sidewalk, even though some merchants in the downtown area were using them. Hiawatha's planning commission made the recommendation to the city to change the zoning regulations and with a unanimous vote commissioners agreed to allow the sidewalk signs. This does not apply to political signs, which is dealt with in a different part of Hiawatha's zoning laws.
