CHILLICOTHE, MO. (2010-08-20) The Chillicothe school board raises the tax rate this year in the face of a weak financial outlook by the State.
The R-2 board increased the tax rate to $4.25 / $100 of assessed valuation. That's a $2.50 increase over last year. Chillicothe superintendent Dr. Linda Gray Smith says she's working to ensure the R-2 schools are strong despite the recession. Smith adds state testing scores out of Chillicothe show the education of students is strong, she says the board wants to continue that for a long time to come.
