MARYVILLE, MO (2010-08-23) The number of bank account fraud cases is growing in Maryville, and public safety is urging you to check your bank accounts.
In the last week or so nearly 20 reports have come in from Maryville citizens that have had money stolen from the accounts using their debit cards or credit cards numbers. The problem is the cards were never out of their possession, and the purchases are being done as far away as New York, Texas, Florida, and Ohio. Public safety director Keith Wood says his investigators are trying to determine if someone is using an electronic skimming device to capture the card numbers and then sell them or if a national database has been hacekd. The fraud reports are across numerous local banks, from all companies like Visa or Mastercard and are from numbers off both debit and credit cards. Officials urge you to watch your accounts very closely for any unauthorized charges especially from out of State.
