ST. JOSEPH, MO (2009-08-28) The St. Joseph tannery under investigation in the Cameron Brain Tumor cases now is allegedly allowing run off from the plant to dump into the Missouri River.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says its investigation shows unpermitted storm water runs off the site and eventually reaches the river, and that the water is exposed to potential sources of contamination. This is contrary to what the previous owners of the plant had reported that the water flows into a pipe and is treated off site. DNR inspectors have delivered a notice of the violation to National Beef Leathers, which requires them conduct ongoing tests and shield some factory materials that are exposed to rainfall. The company has been named at also supplying by products to Northwest Missouri Farmers who use it as a soil fertilizer which has been investigated as the possible cause of a Rach of Brain Tumors in the Cameron Area.
