Senior Property Tax Relief

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2012-04-17)

Tax day can be tough for anyone, but it's especially hard on senior citizens on a fix income.

Senior struggling with rising property taxes could get relief from 2 bills making their way through the Missouri legislature. One would provide seniors an average $200 state tax credit, the other would freeze property tax rates for qualified homeowners when they turn 62. St. Louis county assessor Jake Zimmerman says too many senior citizens are getting caught in the property tax problem.

If passed the legislation could affect about 10,000 Missourians.
