Iowa Road Funding

Wayman

SHENANDOAH, IA (2012-04-16)

Iowa is set to spend more on building new roads and road repairs this year than the record year of 2009.

This comes as Americans are changing driving habits thanks to higher gas prices, new driver's licensing laws-factors leading to fewer miles driven. Director of programming management with the Iowa Department of Transportation Jon Ranney says they don't know if that's a long-term trend, but they are watching it.

While the Hawkeye state plans on spending almost 600 million dollars on new roads and resurfacing old ones, Ranney says road use is critical to determining where new roads are built or upgraded.
