On Sunday, the Iowa winter moratorium on utility cut-offs for non-payment ended, and some Iowans could face disconnection now.

There are nearly a quarter of a million Iowa households behind on their bills. Some of these 225,000 customers could now face disconnection according to low income home energy assistance program executive director Jerry McKim. He says the milder than expected weather helped a little.

McKim says the program was cut by 25%, which meant that the amount they could pay per household was less than last year. McKim says for those who owe winter heating bills, they need to make arrangements to pay immediately.McKim says if customers feel they are unable to reach a payment plan they can afford, they need to contact the Iowa utilities board as soon as possible.
