Hypo Underage Crackdown

With prom and graduation season looming area law enforcement are cracking down on underage drunk driving.

From 2009 through 2011 83 fatal crashes and 233 disabling injury crashes involved an impaired driver under 21. Missouri has a zero tolerance law meaning any drivers under 21 found driving with even a trace of alcohol in their system will have their drivers license suspended. Troop H Highway Patrol sergeant Sheldon Lyon says driving is the leading cause of death among teens, and at this time of year younger drivers are receiving closer attention.

Consequences of driving drunk include jail time, loss of drivers license, ignition interlocks being implemented and increased insurance rates. Law enforcement will conclude their crackdown on underage drinking in mid May.
