Hiawatha Sewage

Fluker

HIAWATHA, KS (2012-04-23)

The USDA rural development has agreed to loan the city of Hiawatha $998,000 to fund the first phase of a deteriorated sewage collection.

The first phase will start with TV surveillance to locate where water infiltration is occurring, then will include construction on approximately 20,000 feet of sewer pipe and replacing 400 manholes. Dave Grimm is the public works administrator for the Hiwatha and says residents will be able to see the difference in times of heavy rainfall.

Phase 1 is tentatively set for this September and looks to be a year long project. Upon completion the city will apply for federal funds for the second and final phase.
