MARYVILLE, MO (2011-04-04)
A revolutionary project is being developed on the university campus in Maryville, one that could change the way the U.S. Military goes to war.
Called "Battle Command Battle Lab" Professors and about 9 students at Northwest Missouri State are using Microsoft Surface technology like is used on the I-Pad and I-Phone to build war strategy simulations on a touch screen tabletop. The theory is more collaboration among soldiers using the table rather than watching screens on a wall. Users can create battle strategies dropping and dragging portable computer-chip like devices onto a interactive map within the table's surface. Major Rob Jones from Ft. Leavenworth's command and general Staff College got a hand-on demo on Friday at Northwest and was impressed. This phase of the Northwest Battle Lab project is expected to finished in September.
