St. JOSEPH, MO (2011-04-27)
The draft of a long-range plan for St. Joseph's public schools includes closing some elementary schools, renovating others and building new facilities.
THe master plan was unveiled last night to a large crowd. It's to be implemented in three phases over 15 years, but would depend on funding. The first phase would include closing Hall and Humboldt elementary schools. Other schools would be renovated and expanded, and one new elementary school would be built in midtown St. Joseph. If the full plan is implemented, 16 elementary schools would dwindle to 12, with eight getting new classrooms. THe district would expand from four to five middle schools, but maintain three high schools. The estimated cost of all three was nearly $475 million.
