MARYVILLE, MO (2011-04-27)
A problem issue in Maryville is a step closer to being resolved.
The city has hired a consulting firm to explore college renters moving into single family owner-occupied housing. As part of creating Maryville's comprehensive plan, the firm has offered a suggestion of creating two zoning overlay districts in the northwest aprt of town, one that would limit 4 unrelated people within a structure to the east of campus, and the other would limit 2 unrelated occupants on other sides of the school. Parking permits could also be required to park on some streets overnight. City manager Matt LeCerf says the goal is to control over, occupancy in neighborhoods, especially surrounding the university. The proposal will go to the planning and zoning board, then have input from university officials before going to the city council for a vote on any future changes.
