MARYVILLE, MO (2011-04-28)
Missouri's DC delegation has sent a letter to the Obama Administration appealing to save 130,000 acres of the Missouri boot heel from flooding.
At issue is an army corps of engineer proposal to intentionally blow up a levee on the Missouri River to relieve flooding in Cairo Illinois. A plan that town's mayor Judson Childs has been encouraging federal lawmakers to do. But a joint letter by Missouri Senators Blunt, McCaskill, and representative Jo Ann Emerson is urging the feds not to break the levee, pointing out hundreds of thousands of acres of Missouri property would be destroyed. The army corps says it will wait until the weekend before making a decision.
