ROCK PORT, MO. (2010-4-6) More than half a million dollars are on the way to Northwest Missouri to upgrade two town's water systems.
The State department of natural resources has awarded $500,000 in grant money to Rock Port and $137,500 in grants to Burlington Junction. Rock Port leaders are trying to upgrade their water mains, water tank, and install a water meter reading system. All totaled the project is expected to cost a little more than a million dollars and be finished by next March. In Burlington Junction workers will build an emergency water connection to Nodaway County public water supply district number one. That construction will cost about $275,000 and should be finished this July. The State money comes from $50 million in bonds the DNR sold back in November of 2007.
