MARYVILLE, MO (2010-4-2) Maryville remains up in the air on its chances to land the Tour of Missouri Bike race as budget debate plays out in Jefferson City.
Missouri Senate budget writers are going through the state budget bills passed last week by the Missouri House and making even more cuts to the nearly 34 billion dollar spending plan submitted by Governor Jay Nixon. House members slashed 200 million from the budget before passing it. Members of the Senate Appropriations Committee so far have proposed additional cuts to life sciences research, Access Missouri scholarships and have gutted the entire three million dollar state appropriation for the arts. Chairman Robert Mayer of Stoddard County says state funding for the Tour of Missouri professional bike race is on the table as well. All budget bills must be approved by both the House and Senate by May 7th, one week before the end of the 2010 session.
