MARYVILLE, MO (2010-4-20) The two highway patrol troopers involved in a standoff and shooting near Maryville last February have been given the Meritorious Service Award by the patrol at a recent ceremony.
Troopers Robert Dudeck and Dale Reuter arrived on the scene of a house North of Maryville where a transient had entered. The two troopers went inside despite being told by witnesses the stranger had a rifle. When they confronted him, he allegedly started to raise his gun toward them. Trooper Dudeck fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the shoulder and then helped arrest him for prosecution. Also at the awards ceremony highway patrol communications operator Amber Burns was given the patrol's lifesaving award. Burns was off duty and eating a Chillicothe restaurant last April when another diner collapsed. She rushed to his aid, discovered he wasn't breathing and had no heartbeat. She started CPR until the ambulance arrived and the man has since made a full recovery.
