CLARINDA, IA (2010-4-20) This is the week for Clarinda residents to clean up the city.
The city council and Clarinda tree board are urging residents to address litter and the fallen branches and limbs from winter. Called "Clarinda Cleanup Week", city hall is also asking for volunteers to help the city with the efforts. Southwest recycling center is offering curb-side pickup of tin, paper, plastic, glass, appliances, and cardboard. Also at its last city council meeting, Clarinda council members passed a resolution pursuing a grant from the Iowa department of economic development to help the NSK corporation expand operations. It and a plant in Indiana are considered candidates for the expansion which if it happens in Clarinda could create nearly 50 new jobs at the ball bearing plant. The council also approved an agreement to sell a parcel of land at the business park in Clarinda for a new ice house restaurant. The owners would receive a 50% rebate on taxes for 10 years.
