MARYVILLE, MO (2010-4-22) The House member from Maryville is leading the way for legislation that would equalize the amount of money awarded to College students.
Currently, the "Access Missouri" needs-based scholarship program provides up to $4,600 per student per year at a 4 year school. Those enrolled at a state-run school can only receive Mike Thomson of Maryville is sponsoring the bill that would set scholarship amounts at $2,850 dollars a year in both private and public colleges. The equalizing of access Missouri scholarships would not take effect until 2014. It would also provide up to $1,300 per year to qualifying student at community colleges. The bill is getting overwhelmingly Bipartisan support. It needs a final vote in the house before moving over for senate consideration.
