MARYVILLE, MO (2009-05-05) Missouri Beef experts are pointing to prices at a recent livestock sale in Southern Missouri to show the cattle industry in the Show-Me-state is doing very well.
On Saturday heifers that will calve this fall sold for an average of 14-hundred dollars a head.
The sale was in Fruitland, Missouri- that's just north of Cape Girardeau.
Extension agents say the 14-hundred dollar average was excellent considering the present economy and uncertainty in the beef business.
About 90 percent of the heifers were Angus or Angus crossbreeds.
The 71 lots took in more than 176 thousand dollars.
