Mike Racy issues letter from the MIAA

MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy issued the following letter regarding the decision to suspend all sports due to the spread coronavirus:

To the MIAA Family,

This is an extremely difficult and challenging time, and I wanted to start this letter by saying that we sympathize with our MIAA student-athletes who are coping with the unexpected reality of losing their postseason or having their competition season halted.

The decision to suspend Intercollegiate Sports on MIAA campuses was a very difficult decision, and something the MIAA office, along with MIAA member schools, believed was an urgent and necessary action to help protect the health and safety of everyone involved in MIAA sports.

As we approach this uncertain time, we will continue to closely monitor this rapidly developing health crisis.  The MIAA office and our member institutions will continue to rely on State and National health and medical experts for advice and direction.  We will also continue to work with the NCAA and adhere to the Association’s guidance on eligibility and compliance-related issues.

The MIAA student-athlete experience influences all decisions in our Association, and I am proud of the commitment by Presidents, Athletic Administrators, Faculty and Coaches at MIAA schools who always operate with this as our core value.

The situation for our campuses and communities continues to be difficult and complex, and it reminds us that we have a social responsibility to take care of each other and support each other.

The MIAA and our member schools are grateful for your understanding and support during this state and national emergency.

Sincerely,

Commissioner Mike Racy
