Witthus reels in MIAA honor

Joey Witthus continues to turn heads in his senior campaign, and this week, it was the MIAA taking notice.

The Chanhassen, Minnesota native received MIAA Player of the Week honors after big time performances against Emporia State and Washburn.

Witthus went for 32 points on 11-22 shooting against Emporia last Wednesday. He followed that up with 26 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in a win over Washburn.

Overall, the senior is averaging 30.7 points per game over his last three contests, including a 34-point night against Central Oklahoma.

Northwest men's basketball has earned player of the week awards from the conference in consecutive weeks. On January 7, the MIAA recognized Ryan Hawkins with the award.

The Bearcats return to the hardwood Saturday in St. Joseph. Missouri Western hosts Northwest in a MIAA doubleheader. The women's game gets underway at 5:30pm, followed by the men at 7:30pm. The broadcast on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 5:10pm with pregame.
