Central Region Tournament returns to Northwest

For the third year in a row, the NCAA Central Region Tournament returns to Maryville.

After Northwest posted a 32-0 record through the regular season and conference tournament, there was no question who would host the central region ahead of the NCAA Selection Show.

The Bearcats earned that right with the best start in program history, a sixth consecutive MIAA regular season title, and a fourth straight MIAA Tournament championship.

Now Northwest is hoping to find the same magic from the 2017 region tournament.

Led by NABC Player of the Year Justin Pitts, the Bearcats beat Southwest Minnesota State 55-52 in the NCAA Central Region Championship, and went on to win the program's first national championship.

The 'Cats hit a bump in the road as the tournament began in 2018, though. Minnesota State Mankato upended the top-ranked team in the region 60-50 in the opening round to close out Northwest's season.

The Bearcats will have the opportunity to avenge that loss this Saturday at 6pm as they start the central region tournament against Minnesota State for the second year in a row.

This season, Northwest Missouri State is 14-0 at home, and have posted a record of 87-5 inside Bearcat Arena over the last 92 games in Maryville.

Each Northwest game in the NCAA Tournament will be broadcast on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9. Pregame on Saturday will begin at 5:40pm.
