St. Joseph Symphony director to retire

The Conductor and Music Director of the Saint Joseph Symphony, Rico McNeela, announced that the 2019-20 season would be his last with the symphony as well as his final year teaching at Missouri Western State University.

McNeela took over directing for the symphony in 2009 where he has been praised for his leadership and commitment to the community. One of McNeela’s most impactful initiatives has been the Instrumental Infusion Program where Missouri Western, the Saint Joseph School District, and Saint Joseph Symphony bring a two day program to nine hundred 5th grade students to try out a variety of musical instruments to increase interest in bands and orchestras in public schools.

A nationwide search is being conducted for McNeela's replacement.
