Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is this Saturday

Tomorrow is the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The drive offers area residents the opportunity to help give back to food pantries and food banks in their communities. Communications Coordinator for Second Harvest Community Food Bank, Blake Haynes, says people can participate by filling up a bag with nonperishable items and placing it by their mail box.

"It is being picked up again by the postal service and then distributed throughout your community through the partner agency that we have out there.  So everything stays local that you donate and it's a great way to help those in need in your community and kind of give back."

Haynes say people should only put non-perishable items in their bags and avoid glass containers.

"You know, canned goods, boxed goods.  Things like that.  Things to maybe avoid are maybe a fruit or something like that just because, you know, with as any bags being picked up, you wouldn't want something like that to be on the bottom to get smooshed or crushed or something like that."
