Senator Blunt visits Grant City Medical Center

Republican U.S. Senator Roy Blunt visited north Missouri over the weekend. One of his stops was in Grant City to tour the Grant City Medical Center. Mosiaic's Northwest Medical Center in Albany recently renovated a former Casey's General Store facility converting it into a medical clinic. Blunt says the federal government can do more to ensure rural residents have access to health care such as the new facility in Grant City.

"The biggest thing the federal government can do is understand the importance of critical access.  A hospital may not have that many patients, may not bill that many dollars, but still essentially critical to the service area that it serves and a greater understanding of that.  And looking for the kinds of things that allow hospitals like that and health care units associated with them to stay in business."

President of the Northwest Medical Center in Albany, Jon Dolittle says the Grant City Clinic is making a difference in the health care given to residents of Worth County.

"Since we made the move even just the last six months of people accessing care here, in some cases, absolute emergent care, that came to this very noticable, easily accessible space.  Often times had to go to a higher level of care to our hospital in Albany or elsewhere.  But really, just in 6 months, you can point to several life-saving instances of care that came through this clinic.  As rural health care continues to change, technology enables more things, we're going to be seeking to push capability out to our patients and allow them to access that care."
