Rolling Hills Library asks voters to approve levy increase

The Rolling Hills Library in Savannah and St. Joseph will be asking voters in Andrew County and portions of Buchanan County to continue the portion of its operating levy that sunsets at the end of the year. In 1999, voters approved a 20-year fifteen-cent increase to the existing levy. Rolling Hills Library Director Michelle Mears says the levy helps fund the operating costs of the library.

"It is a little less than half of our operating budget so we use it to purchase materials, do programs, bring visiting exhibits, pay staff - all the things that we use our operating budget for.  So it wouldn't be anything specific or special.  It would really be our operating costs."

Mears says the current levy has helped the Rolling Hills Library expand its branches, re-start their bookmobile services to schools and rural communities, and add to both their physical and digital collections. The Rolling Hills Library district includes all of Andrew County and rural parts of Buchanan County outside the 1965 St. Joseph city limits.
The August 6th election would continue the levy at its current level for another 20 years.
