Rain continues to aggravate flooding conditions

Snow melt and rain have caused flooding issues throughout the state of Missouri this spring and, according to the National Weather Service, we won't see much of a break any time soon.
Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Walter Otto says the forecast for the next couple of weeks features a lot of precipitation.

"What we're looking as far as rainfall goes even in the extended forecast is 6-10 days out, we're looking for above normal chances of precipitation.  And even 8-14 days out, there's still a slight chance of above normal precip.  Now with that said, there's still snow up in the Dakotas.  As a matter of fact, they did pick up some more snow over the last couple of days, so even though temperatures are warming up, there's still some snowmelt up to the north.  So that's going to continue to also aggravate flooding conditions.'

Otto adds more rain is on the way for tonight.

"As you know, everyone got quite a bit of rain over the last 24 hours with most locations one to two inches of rain.  Some locations got up to 4 inches of rain.  While we do have a break right now as far as the precipitation goes,  we are expecting the next round to occur tonight.  We are looking at about half an inch to an inch of rain tonight with some areas picking up even more than that.  Normally that wouldn't be a whole of rain, but given the ground's saturated, that's going to continue to aggravate current flooding conditions."

The National Weather service has continued its flood warnings along the Missouri River.
