More rain through Thursday in northwest Missouri

Another round of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to move into parts of the region during the early morning hours tonight in the southern parts of the northwest Missouri region with a flash flood watch along the Missouri River. Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Jonathan Kurtz, says this round of rainfall will be continuing to the end of the week.

"By the end of Thursday we could easily see widespread amounts of and inch and a half to two inches across parts of northwest Missouri.  Right now it looks like around 2 inches overall for Maryville and 1.5 for Chillicothe through Thursday."

Kurtz urges people to stay aware of low spots and roads that typically flood this time of year and to never try to drive through any flooded roadways.

"When it comes to heavy rainfall like this, if you come across a flooded roadway, we really want to get across to folks to turn around and not drive through that flooded roadway.  We've already had across the United States this spring, we've already had 30 fatalities from folks driving into flooded roads.  We've already had one in Missouri.  Somebody inside of a car unfortunately drowning after driving into a flooded roadway.  So it's really important to turn around and don't drown."
