Missouri Highway Patrol planning to be in full force this weekend

One of the busiest weekends of the year for traveling is coming up this weekend with the Memorial Day three-day holiday. Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant Jake Angle says the Missouri Highway Patrol will be out in full force this weekend.

"We're going to have all available troops on the road.  And those that work in the water in the water patrol division on the water.  We want everybody to be safe.  We're going to do that through high visability, strict enforcement.  We have got a lot of hazard moving operations, DWI saturations.  And the goal of all that is to just make sure everybody out there on the roadway, on the water that they're safe.  We want everyone to have a safe Memorial Day holiday."

Angle adds the Missouri Highway Patrol will also conduct three DWI saturations this weekend in Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry and Harrison Counties.

"Within those counties obviously.  We're going to pick those areas where there's been a higher frequency of alcohol-related traffic crashes.  Maybe officers' input into where to have those operations.  So there's a lot that goes on into deciding which counties get picked.  But this year for Memorial Day weekend, we didn't pick those for any particular reason other than it's that time of year and it's a good time to saturate those counties."

The scheduled DWI saturations will take place during the peak travel times between this Friday and next Monday.
