Clarinda Library announces summer reading program and 3D modeling camp

The Lied Public Library in Clarinda has announced the theme for this summer's reading program.  This year's them is A Universe of Stories.   Library director Andrew Hoppmann says libraries throughout Iowa are using the same theme again this year.

"Libraries across Iowa and across the nation come together and work and utilize one theme each summer.  The benefit of doing that is then that we actually get a lot of great programs and presenters that focus on this theme so that you can kind of relate, maybe share, some of your experiences with friends and family in a different town or even in a different state."

Hoppmann adds the Lied Public Library has summer reading programs for all ages and anticipates over one thousand eight hundred library patrons to take part in this summer's program.
Hoppmann also says another program they are offering this summer will be a 3D Modeling camp in June.

"The first day we're actually going to have a 3D animator come in, as well as some engineers that kind of make tools and parts in 3D.  So they are going to come and talk.  And then we're going to explain what is 3-D modeling, and what 's a 3D printer.  But then for the rest of the 3D modeling camp, we're actually going to be working on the computer in the software, building simple or complex computer-aided or cat drawings.  And then at the end, guess what?  We get to use the 3D printer to print those so you can take home whatever it is you've created."

The 3D Modeling Camp begins June 3rd, and is for ages 13 and up.  During the summer reading program, the library is featuring a challenge for children and teens. Registration for the summer challenge is open now. To register or for more information visit Clarindapubliclibrary.org.
